Comprehensive Pilgrimage Guide

What is an Umrah visa?

An Umrah visa is a special travel permit issued by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) to Muslims who wish to visit the holy cities of Makkah and Madinah to perform Umrah.

This pilgrimage holds deep spiritual importance in Islam. This journey is a way to renew one’s intentions, seek closeness to Allah, strengthen faith, ask for forgiveness, and purify the heart from past sins while reconnecting spiritually.

Unlike the Hajj visa, which is granted only during the specific days of Dhul-Hijjah. Umrah visas can be applied throughout the year. This gives pilgrims the flexibility to perform Umrah in any month, except during the days reserved exclusively for Hajj.

The visa is meant only for religious purposes, and cannot be used for work or other types of travel. Pilgrims typically stay for up to 30 days, performing the rituals of Umrah and visiting sacred sites in both Makkah and Madinah.

For millions of Muslims worldwide, this visa serves as a gateway to spiritual renewal to visit the Holy Kaaba and strengthen their connection with Allah (SWT).

Important Checklist

Things to do before leaving for umrah?

Ensure your spiritual and structural checklist is complete prior to landing in the Kingdom.

Conversion of indian currency to SAR
Remember all of the duas before leaving for umrah, because these duas are needed to recite during tawaf, so remember to mug up/ revise all those duas.
Understand the steps of Umrah (Tawaf and Sa’i) and familiarize yourself with the rules of Ihram before your journey.
Bring 2 ihram for each person. The definition of ihram is different for both males and females.

Essential Things to Carry for Umrah

To avoid unnecessary hassle during your journey, make sure you carry these essentials:

1) Umbrella:

The temperature in Mecca and Medina can go up to 40–45°C in peak season, and even outside the summer temperature still stays above 35°C. That's why in this heat an umbrella will help you protect your skin from harsh sunlight.

2) Pocket Jaynamaz (Prayer Mat)

Carrying a pocket prayer mat is highly useful for offering Salah comfortably, especially during crowded times or while going for Ziyarat.

3) Slippers

In the state of ihram men are not allowed to wear fully covered shoes. Footwear they are wearing must leave the ankles and the top of the foot exposed, making slippers a practical and suitable choice. They are also easy to wear and remove, especially during Tawaf and at mosque entrances.

4) Unscented Soap/Shampoo

You must carry unscented soap and shampoo. It is really important during the state of Ihram to use these unscented things only, as scented products are not allowed.

5) ORS / Hydration Salts

Helps prevent dehydration due to heat and long walking hours.

6) Safety Pins

Very useful for securing hijab or Ihram cloth properly.

7) Travel Adapter

A travel adapter is a small device that helps your charger fit into a different country’s plug. A universal travel adapter is the best option or you should at least carry a type G adapter which is used in Saudi Arabia.
